1 My Man Godfrey The best screwball comedy ever. In a fabulous package - excellent film restoration, commentary, outtakes, 1938 radio broadcast. 2 Rebecca Don't know why, but my fabourite Hitchcock film - Hitch goes to Hollywood! Great mood (I think opening influenced the opening of Citizen Kane). Great DVD package including 3 Lux Radio broadcasts of Rebecca. 3 Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Fantasy. People with swords. Flying. Martial arts. What more could you ask for? Best movie ever? Who cares ... If not best, in top 3. Great transfer, great package, great movie. Like Criterion films, this is what good DVDs should be. 5 Die Hard First and best of all those "one man against incredible odds" things Hollywood loves to do. 20th Century Fox Five Star series are among the best DVD packages (as Die Hard shows). Great example of Hollywood excess - yet manages to be a great movie (of the old Hollywood type). 3 DVD set contains the very long movie plus 2 hour documentary - almost as good as movie. The David Lean masterpiece is fabulous DVD package (looks more like a book with its cover). The film transfer is almost flawless. I like this, though I'm not sure why. 2 DVD set with lots of material. Film itself simply looks good. And the mood created is so well done ... What a relief after so many dark, shadowy movies (yes, they look good but I get a little tired of squinting). Unapologetically Hollywood fluff, California bright and colourful. Reese WItherspoon gives a perfectly pitched performance. Simply fun to watch. Well, it's the Godfather. Great movie. Not thrilled with the DVD package or transfer, but ... it's the Godfather. Of course, Hitchcock's Rear Window should probably be here, as should Gattaca, one of the best science fiction movies ever made. But there are only so many numbers available in a Top Ten list.
